Peer Specialist Role: Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Teams

The peer specialist is an integral member of the ACT Interprofessional team. The Peer Specialist role in an ACT team is held by someone who is required to have experienced some form of life-interrupting distress, typically involving psychiatric diagnosis and a history of receiving psychiatric services. Peer Specialists seek to help individuals using ACT services to make meaning of their experiences, become aware of their options and ultimately increase their ability to make informed choices.
