27 Apr 2018 ACT: Reviewing Areas of Supervision in Integrated Treatment 4/27/2018 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

When: Friday, April 27, 2018 from 10-11AM 

Description (ACT Team Leaders Only):

This yearlong training seeks to enhance and strengthen substance use specialists (SUS) in the implementation of dual recovery treatment on ACT teams. Training is targeted to SUS new to the ACT model as well as those who currently are working on an ACT team. The training uses a blended learning curriculum consisting of face-to-face and online meetings geared toward skill building, problem solving and collaboration. Upon completion of the training SUS/IDDT Specialists will be able to earn Social Work, CASAC, or LMHC continuing education credits. 

Learning Objectives are:

  • SUS will be able to describe their role on the ACT Team.
  • SUS will understand and apply harm reduction principles.
  • SUS will demonstrate how to screen and assess for dual diagnosis/co-occurring challenges.
  • SUS will identify and interpret a consumer's stage of change and provide appropriate stage-based treatment.
  • SUS will demonstrate basic Motivational Interviewing skills.

The ACT Institute provides training, support, and consultation to Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) providers across New York State.  Our training curriculum is based on national evidence-based practice consortium standards and modifications to these standards as developed by the Office of Mental Health. Training is delivered via in-person and distance-learning modalities. Our trainers include both staff of the Center for Practice Innovations and other expert consultants.

The ACT Institute and Columbia School of Social Work Receive a New York Community Trust Grant to Investigate the Needs and Assets of ACT Participants who are Parents or are Pregnant
In collaboration with the Columbia School of Social Work and Dr. Ellen Lukens, Helle Thorning and the ACT Institute received a grant from New York Community Trust to research the needs, risks and assets of ACT participants who are pregnant or parents of children under 18. Read more.

Mr.Louis Vavrina will talk about Navigating Recovery's Rocky Road. Mr. Vavrina is a recent Howie the Harp graduate who, as part of that training, did an internship at the Center for Practice Innovations.

The ACT Institute will host monthly ACT TALK.  In a radio interview style, the director of the ACT Institute, Helle Thorning, will engage invited guests in a dialog of emerging issues related to ACT in today's health care environment.  Listeners are invited to participate and we look forward to stimulating and informative conversations during this critical time in health care.
