The Center for Practice Innovations (CPI) supports the New York State Office of Mental Health’s mission to promote the widespread availability of evidence-based practices to improve mental health services, ensure accountability, and promote recovery-oriented outcomes for consumers and families. The CPI serves as a key resource to OMH by spreading those practices identified by OMH as most critical to accomplish OMH’s system-transformation initiatives.

FACT: The coping skills developed in jail or prison are often difficult to give up when a person leaves those settings

FACT: It's important for providers working with justice-involved individuals to understand the culture of incarceration

FACT: It's important for providers to recognize the challenges faced by these individuals when leaving incarceration environments and arriving at community clinical settings

The  CPI Academy  is designed to provide you with up-to-date knowledge about important cross-cutting topics of interest for the behavioral health practitioner.  Each curriculum has been carefully designed to allow easy and efficient access within our learning management system ("CPI Learning Community").

Together, we are increasing practitioners' knowledge, skills and competencies.

We're getting a lot done, and people are noticing -- our publications in professional journals are helping to increase knowledge in the field related to evidence-based practices, practice implementation, distance learning, and dissemination strategies.

CPI NewsBrief: Recovery-oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R) Video Series is Now Available

Thanks to a grant awarded to the NYS Office of Mental Health, CPI has worked with experts from the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania to create a series of nine videos focusing on Recovery-oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R).


CT-R was designed for people diagnosed with serious mental illness and is based upon a number of principles including:

  • What people think effects how they feel and what they do
  • Recovery extends to all
  • There are concrete and effective procedures for bringing about recovery
All individuals have an adaptive mode within them and everyone who works with them can collaborate to promote flourishing

Catalogues Are Now Available for CPI's Learning Management System and Website Consumer Portal

The Online Module Catalogue lists and provides information about 90+ online modules that are currently found in our Learning Management System (

The Consumer and Family Portal lists and provides information for providers, consumers and their families.

IMHATT Program Completion List

  • 24 October 2018
Access a list of OMH-licensed programs where at least one staff person has earned an Integrated Mental Health Mental Health/Addictions Treatment Training (IMHATT) certificate. People earn an IMHATT certificate after completing 29 online training modules that include basic, intermediate, and advanced skills in integrated treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders including tobacco dependence.
