Vision

To support every member of the diverse behavioral health system workforce in New York State in promoting meaningful wellness, recovery, and resilience with approaches rooted in equity, social justice, inclusivity, and belonging.

 

Mission

In conjunction with the NY State Office of Mental Health, CPI aims to accelerate the capacity of the behavioral health workforce in New York State to further develop skills and competencies centered on the needs of our communities with the most effective, reliable, and culturally humble services.

Our training mission encompasses the development and distribution of educational courses, online training modules, guidelines, manuals, and toolkits delivered in person and online through our learning management system. In alignment with our overall mission and values, community perspectives and adult learning theory informs these trainings to allow for different learning styles and learners including care managers, primary care providers, peer providers, behavioral health clinicians, home and community-based service providers, students, and participants and participants’ family members.

Our implementation supports promote the adoption of strengths-based, individualized, recovery-oriented approaches that center human rights and are based in the wisdom of lived experience, cultural humility, meaningful collaboration, and tailored to the needs of participants and communities. Through collaboration with organizational leaders, managers, supervisors, and practitioners, CPI provides flexible and data-driven implementation supports. Key methods include in-person and online meetings, consultations, and learning collaboratives.

Is crucial for providers, agencies, and organizations to understand and incorporate to better provide equitable and unbiased care.

As defined by outcomes important to all invested people (e.g., leadership, providers, families, people receiving services) and which are included in training, consultation, program design, and continuous quality improvement/evaluation of implementation.

Empowerment

Equips providers, agency leaders, and organizations with the tools and supports to implement and sustain positive change.

Relationship with the New York State Office of Mental Health

The Center for Practice Innovations is supported by the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS-OMH). The CPI serves as a key resource in spreading those practices identified by NYS-OMH as most critical to accomplish the transformation of behavioral health care service delivery in New York. In addition to training and implementation support, the CPI provides guidance and expertise to OMH that is rooted in research on evidence-based practices, implementation science, and behavioral health care policy.

Relationship with the Nathan Kline Institute

The Nathan Kline Institute (NKI), a facility of the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH), is one of the nation’s most respected research centers focused on mental health. NKI supports the collection and management of data critical to the Center for Practice Innovations (CPI)’s mission.
