HCBS Online Training FAQs

Is it possible to have all staff complete the trainings at the same time in the same office? That way I can make sure all staff are completing the trainings.

Yes. When the group training is completed, each participant can log into our LMS individually, access the modules, and complete the post-evaluations individually.

As outlined in the letter from OMH and OASAS (attached herein) all trainings in the online training series are required this includes: “Overview of Health and Recovery Plan/Home and Community Based Services, Core Knowledge Areas and Service Specific Training.” Please note that “Service Specific Training,” is currently under development and CPI will inform you when these trainings are available.

The training is primarily required of HCBS staff (those delivering HCBS services) and supervisors. Including or requiring training participation for individuals beyond these roles, is up to the discretion of the agency.

Please forward the self-registration link to all HCBS staff so they can register to the CPI Learning Community. Once approved, the staff member will receive an email with login information and a link to the CPI Learning Community. Please note: if a staff member sees the message “*Email is already in use,” this means they’re already registered to the CPI learning community and should contact the CPI Online Assistance Unit for assistance at

To access the HCBS curricula, log into the CPI Learning Community at with your using your username and password. Then click on the HCBS logo to begin. Please note: If you do not remember your username/ and password, please click on the “FORGOT USERNAME” or “FORGOT PASSWORD” prompt on the login screen. An email with the information will be emailed to the address on file. If you have not received your information in an hour, please check your Junk/ Spam folder or contact the CPI Online Assistance Unit at

Minimum computer specifications to view trainings in the learning community: 

  • Operating System: MS Windows 2000/7 or Mac OS 10.5 
  • Browser: Internet Explorer (IE) 9 and greater, including IE 11; Firefox 4 and greater; Safari 8 and greater; Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera 27 and greater (*Using the most up to date version is highly recommended)
  • Processor: 733 MHz or higher
  • RAM: 256 MB RAM
  •  Connectivity: 128K or higher; 256kb is recommended.
  • Color: Minimum color quality requirement is 16-bit color; optimal color quality is 32-bit color
  • Plug-ins: Flash Player 14.0 or higher
  • Screen resolution:1024 x 728 pixels or higher is recommended
  • Sound Card: Available
  • Hard Drive Space: 500 MB free disk space
  • Pop-up blockers have been turned off (click here for instructions to turn off your pop-up blocker)

We recommend you try the following troubleshooting tips: 

  1. Check to ensure that you have the latest plugins and version of flash 
  2. Check to ensure that you are operating in a flash compatible browser 
  3. Please check with your IT team to check for blocked communications specifically from Akamai:  

If you are using Chrome and experiencing video quality issues: 

  1. Open Chrome and enter the URL chrome://settings/content 
  2. Click on "Flash" 
  3. Disable "Ask First" 
  4. Close Chrome and try viewing a video again

If an agency has staff members already registered in the CPI Learning Management System the agency supervisor should email Laura Bernero at a list of the staff members that will be taking the HCBS trainings. CPI will then make sure these staff members are designated correctly in our system for reporting purposes.
