This training includes 3 separate online modules: 1) Practitioner Tools for Treating Tobacco Dependence: covers screening and assessment of tobacco use and dependency among people with serious mental illness as well as counseling strategies to help people quit; 2) Understanding the Use of Medications to Treat Tobacco Dependence: describes three categories of first-line medications for tobacco dependence and how to provide brief education and instruction around each; 3) Implementing Tobacco Dependence Treatment: describes the epidemiology of tobacco use among people with serious mental illness, effective methods for tobacco dependence treatment, and information to help program leaders create, implement and maintain a tobacco free culture in mental health settings. Practitioners (not employed with an NYS OMH or OASAS-licensed agency/program) in NYS can earn Social Work CEU and CASAC for all 3 modules, and prescribers in NYS can earn CME for “Understanding Medications to Treat Tobacco Dependence.”
